ABOUT US

Are there any additional fees?

There are absolutely no additional fees or hidden charges when you deal with Divorce your Jewellery.

Do you do home valuations?

As we have 3 convenient stores plus our secure postal service, this is not necessary in the vast majority of cases.

If you feel there is a good case for us to visit you, please contact us, so we can discuss your needs.

How do I know my valuables are safe with you?

Our comprehensive process ensures your valuables are always safe and secure.

For our In-store customers:

At all times your valuables are in your view and we will talk you through every step of the process. You are under no obligation to accept our offer. However, we do not hold your goods for you.

For our PostSafe customers:

We supply to you, at no charge, a registered post satchel and insure your valuables up to $10,000 value.

If your items are worth more, please inform us as we will buy additional shipping insurance for your valuables – at no cost to you.

You are assigned a unique tracking number for your parcel so you can see its progress at all times. You can be rest assured that once your goods are at DYJ they are always well guarded and completely safe.

As jewellers we are used to keeping our multi-million dollar stock safe, so we know how to keep your goods safe.

How many people have you helped?

With over 20 years of over-the-counter experience and with 3 successful years of PostSafe clients, Divorce your Jewellery has helped over 2000 people sell their gold and gemstones with 100% safety record.

How much will I be paid?

For gold you need to consider that it is an international traded commodity with its price varying on a daily basis. In addition the price of the Australian Dollar is also instrumental in the final worth of gold on the Australian market. The good news is gold continues its record high prices!

Please also remember that your jewellery will not be all gold. Different carats yield different ratios of gold, as per below, and set stones weight must also be deducted;

9ct gold      37.5% gold

14ct gold    58.3% gold

18ct gold    75% gold

22ct gold    90% gold

24ct gold    100% gold

The rest of the weight is made up of alloys and in Australia most people prefer the look of gold mixed with alloys so 22ct or 24ct gold is on the rarer side.

We will carefully check each piece of jewellery and expertly determine the quality of the gold and pay accordingly.

It has come to our attention, through customers, that at some of the gold parties*, mistakes (deliberate or otherwise) have been made in determining what gold you have. For example, paying 9ct price for 10ct or even in one case, 18ct gold.

Please note that we do buy silver but it is not worth nearly as much as gold.

Is Divorce your Jewellery a free service?

Absolutely, both our in-store and our PostSafe service are 100% free.

We also insure your posted goods up to a value of $10,000. If you feel your items are worth more please contact us, as we will take out additional insurance to cover your items.

What happens to my jewellery?

By “recycling” your unwanted jewellery – you are actually helping the environment.

We do not resell your jewellery as jewellery, rather we treat it as metal that is smelted to then be recycled.

Gold mining has long been detrimental to fragile environments, and by allowing gold to be used again you assist with reducing its impact.

Why can I trust you?

We have been in the jewellery business for 20 odd years and we value every single customer. We want you to have a great experience and hopefully tell your friends. We would not last in business very long if we were in habit of ripping people off.

We have also built into our process several extra steps that can reassure you that your valuables are handled properly. For example when your goods arrive they are photographed and sent via MMS or email.

We are also confident that our offered prices are higher than our competitors by the frequency of customers that come back after further investigations to accept our offer.

Please see our how it works section for full detail.

Why do you buy jewellery and not just gold like other places?

Because we are jewellers we are able to expertly apprise all sorts of items – not just gold.

Quite often people are quickly trained to look at gold but have no idea about anything else nor the interest in jewellery like we have.

Why shouldn’t I go to a Gold Party instead?

Gold Parties went through a period of popularity but we have found that due to the increase of unhappy customers they have waned.

We have heard that at these parties, firstly their gold has been appraised at a lower rate, for example 18ct gold being valued at 9ct rate, and secondly they were very underwhelmed at the price they were being offered.

Our advice is to check around first, as sometimes the excitement of the Gold Party can distract you from the facts.

In addition, at Gold Parties two lots of commission are taken out of your payment – one for the valuer and one for the party hostess. Divorce your Jewellery is a direct process with no commissions, no fees or other hidden charges.

Make sure that you are confident that you are getting a proper rate for your goods, and in particular that that are getting paid for the correct type of gold.

GOOD THINGS TO KNOW

Can you refashion my jewellery for me?

Yes, as jewellers we are very experienced at doing this and look forward to working with you to refashion and create your new piece.

Do I need to clean my jewellery before I send it to you?

No. This is not necessary at all.

How do I weigh my jewellery?

It is unnecessary to weigh your jewellery in order to send it to us, but if you wish to do so, kitchen scales can be accurate enough or visit the Post Office or your local friendly butchers and they can weigh it for you.

There are 31.37 grams to an ounce.

How much is my Gold worth?

This is calculated on;

  • Gold content
  • Weight of gold plus
  • Current gold prices.

We will weigh and evaluate your gold and explain its value.

There are no fees or hidden costs.

Please also see our How it works section.

How much is my jewellery worth?

This will depend on its quality, precious metal content and stones.

Diamonds are worth a lot more than other precious stones and we pay a premium for quality diamonds.

Silver is not worth nearly as much as gold, but dependant on the piece may be of some exchange value.

It is difficult if you are inexperienced to appraise jewellery so we invite you to visit us so we can give you an idea of what your items are worth. You are also most welcome to call us, however in most cases we need to see the piece to determine its proper value.

We have been jewellers for over 20 years and are very experienced and knowledgeable in valuing all kinds of jewellery, so you can be assured of receiving a correct valuation.

How will I be paid and how soon?

For customers visiting our stores:

Once your jewellery is appraised, we will make you an offer. Once you have approved this offer we will pay you cash on the spot.

For Secure Mailing client:

We will contact you via SMS or email to let you know we have received your parcel, including a photo of your goods. We will then contact you within 24 hours of receiving your items with our offer.

If you accept our offer you will be paid within the next half hour or as soon as we receive your confirming email.

We can pay either via direct credit your personal account – please note that the account must be in the name of the person sending the jewellery, or a non-negotiable cheque will be posted to you that day made out in your name.

If you do not accept our offer we will return your goods to you in the next days post.

We cannot post items where you may be traveling, such as a weekend away or on holidays – it must be your permanent address (what is on your drivers license).

What if I send goods that are not of any value?

We will let you know of our findings, and then return these goods to you as soon as is possible. If you are a PostSafe customer, this will be in the next post.

What if my jewellery has set stones?

Removing set stones is a costly exercise to remove them, so please bring them in as is and we will then be pleased to appraise the total piece on its merits – and it may even be worth more.

What security checks are needed?

By law we must take a copy of your official photo ID – such as drivers license or passport. These details are required to be passed onto the police.
